BET (Black Entertainment Television) is often criticized for bad programming (really, really bad programming). Many times it’s rightfully so because in between “Halle Berry” by Hurricane Chris and the Keyshia Cole show, there isn’t very much actual news and/or diverse representation of African-American culture. (We won’t lie though, Baldwin Hills, College Hill, and American Gangster are our jams! - don’t judge) With regards to the Black LGBT community specifically, it would be nice to see BET embracing the many queer members of the Black community, and discussing the divide that seems to exist between the community and the LGBT movement at large. Especially because recently the media has had a tendency to make the divide seem even larger, and the hostility between the two groups even greater than it actually is.
That said, on their webpage, BET discusses some of the issues and people in the LGBT community. A small step, but a step nonetheless.
