Is Nicki Minaj the new Katy Perry?

Besides flaunting brightly colored wig-pieces, Both of them have proved that kissing a girl (while being a feminine woman at least) can propel you to stardom. Are they manipulating us? Or just using the same tactics that men have been using for years? Men exaggerate and blatantly lie about having “the hottest chicks, the hottest cars, etc.” all the time in popular music without many repercussions - are they just using the same formula?

And while Nicki’s rhymes use the same misogyny rampant in hip-hop, Katy Perry employs the same fantasy used in popular music. Is it safe to say that they’re both actors working their craft? Where the two differ though, is that Nicki Minaj seems to peak and hold the interest and respect of her male counterparts in hip-hop for the most part. They see her as and equal in some respects because of her ability to well…be like them. And although I hate to say so, in some ways I respect her for being able to stand among them.

I can’t lie and say I don’t have her Barbie’s World mixtape on my iPod, but I also can’t stand behind her as an advocate for the LGBT community either - no matter how many boobs she signs. But are they any worse than Lady Gaga who also uses the gay community to create shock, hype and get the gossip blogs talking? And we know the gays (except for this one) LOVE GAGA.

Thoughts?

person who doesn’t worship GaGa? I felt so alone.
  2. femmefluff answered: That’s interesting. Never noticed the parallel between Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj.
  3. renamok answered: I love GaGa because I feel she’s genuine. I hate Nicki and Katy because I feel they aren’t. Simple as that. Also, they both suck musically.
